Dans son atelier de traduction philosophique, le DEAMM s’attelle aux concepts « intraduisibles », et par-là requis d’être constamment retraduits, et collectés sous la direction de Barbara Cassin dans le Vocabulaire Européen des Philosophies. Un groupe de traducteurs, linguistes et philosophes formé de Ghazi Bello, Salam Diab-Duranton, Mohammad Matar, Sarrah Soliman-de Vaulx, Guillaume de Vaulx et Roula Zoubian, se réunit deux mercredis par mois à l’Ifpo pour plancher sur la traduction d’une entrée préparée par l’un d’eux.
Sachant que la traduction apporte un double savoir : celui du savoir traduit, et celui de la langue et de ses mots, il s’agit pour l’atelier de produire d’une part une traduction fidèle et abordable pour le public arabe cultivé, et d’autre part une réflexion sur l’ancrage linguistique des concepts, les problèmes de traduction rencontrés, et les solutions trouvées. Ces deux lignes de travail donnent chacune lieu à la parution de billets dans les Carnets de l’Ifpo.
L’horizon final de cet atelier est la publication en coédition avec l’Institut Français du Liban de la traduction arabe du Vocabulaire Européen des Philosophies – entrées consacrées à l’éthique.

“Workshop on Translating untranslatable concepts in Arabic”
In his workshop on philosophical translation, the Department of Medieval and Modern Arabic Studies addresses the translation of the concepts that were collected under the direction of Barbara Cassin in the European Vocabulary of Philosophies. Declared untranslatable, those concepts need constantly to be retranslated. Hence, twice a month at the Ifpo, a group of translators, linguists and philosophers consisting of Ghazi Bello, Salam Diab-Duranton, Mohammad Matar, Sarrah Soliman-de Vaulx, Guillaume de Vaulx and Roula Zoubian, work on the translation of an article presented by one of them.
For the translation is a double knowledge, i.e. the knowledge of the translated content and also the knowledge of the language of translation, the workshop aims at producing an accurate translation available to the educated Arabic public and also a reflection on the linguistic foundation of concepts, the empirical problems faced during the translation, and the original solutions found. Both these directions of work are presented in a series of articles published in the Carnets de l’Ifpo.
The final plan of such a workshop is the publication of the Arabic translation of the ethical entries excerpted from the European Vocabulary of Philosophies, translation co-edited with the French Institute in Lebanon.

ورشة عمل حول ترجمة اللامترجمات الفلسفية إلى العربية
بتنظيم جيوم دفو وسلام دياب دورانتون (قسم الدراسات العربية)
ينظم قسم الدراسات العربية الكلاسيكية والمعاصرة ورشة عمل حول الترجمة الفلسفية للامترجَمات المصطلحية التي جمعتها باربارة كاسين في مؤلَّف جماعي تحت عنوان « قاموس المستعصيات على الترجمة: مفردات الفلسفات الأوروبية ». ولأن هذه « اللامترجمات » يستحيل ترجمتها، فهي تتطلب بالتالي إعادة ترجمة دؤوبة. يشارك في هذه الورشة مجموعة من المختصين في مجال الفلسفة واللسانيات والترجمة، تضم غازي بالو وسلام دياب دورنتون ومحمد مطر وسارة سليمان دفو وجيوم دفو ورولا ذبيان. تنعقد الورشة مرتين في الشهر تتناول خلالها دراسة ترجمة مصطلح من معجم الأخلاقيات يكون قد حضر ترجمته مسبقًا أحدُ أعضائها.
بهذا تطمح الترجمة إلى إنتاج معرفة مزدوجة: فهم المضمون المترجَم وفهم اللغة والمصطلحات المتداولة. تسمو إذًا هذه الورشة إلى تقديم ترجمة وفية وعلى مستوى القارئ العربي المثقف. ومن ثم، تسلط الضوء على التأسيس اللغوي للمفاهيم وإشكاليات الترجمة الفلسفية وكيفية تجاوزها. ما يثمر عنه نشر مقالات في الدفاتر الإلكترونية للمعهد الفرنسي للشرق الأدنى. بهذا يكون الهدف النهائي نشر ترجمات قاموس « قاموس المستعصيات على الترجمة: مفردات الفلسفات الأوروبية » ضمن مؤلَّف جماعي بالتعاون مع المعهد الفرنسي في لبنان.
