L’Ifpo/DAHA et le Musée Archéologique de l’Université Américaine de Beyrouth organisent en partenariat, un atelier d’initiation à la lecture et à l’examen des timbres amphoriques grecs. Exhumés en nombres considérables sur différents sites libanais, aussi bien que dans le monde entier, ces documents constituent une source de première importance pour l’archéologue comme pour l’historien, aussi bien pour l’étude du commerce antique que pour l’organisation sociale et politique des centres exportateurs et importateurs. Il semble que les jeunes chercheurs libanais hésitent à aborder cette discipline scientifique en plein essor et l’atelier proposé s’adresse prioritairement aux étudiants et aux fouilleurs, dans un esprit d’information pédagogique.
Les deux séances seront animées par Dr K. Tréhuédic (Univ. Paris-Est), avec la participation de chercheurs du Liban. Elles se tiendront le premier jour en français (Ifpo), en anglais et en français le second jour (Musée archéologique de l’AUB). Les discussions pourront se poursuivre librement dans les trois langues (français, anglais, arabe).
Pour faciliter l’accès à l’Ifpo comme à l’AUB, les participants sont priés de bien vouloir nous communiquer leurs noms à l’avance.
The Ifpo Department of Archaeology in partnership with the Archaeological Museum of the American University of Beirut is organizing an introductory workshop on the reading and study of Greek amphora stamps. Excavated in large numbers on several Lebanese sites as well as across the world, these records are of vital relevance to archaeologists and historians for the study of ancient trade as well as the social and political structure of the exporting and importing centers. Because young Lebanese researchers may feel unprepared in this rapidly increasing scientific domain, the scheduled event is primarily intended for students and excavators, with an instructive informational focus.
Two sessions will be animated by Dr. K. Tréhuédic (Univ. Paris-Est), with the participation of researchers from Lebanon. They will be held in French at Ifpo on the first day (October 31st), then in English and French at the American University of Beirut’s Archaeological Museum on the second day (November, 2nd). Discussions in the three languages are welcome (French, English, and Arabic).
Participants are kindly asked to give their names in advance to allow access to both Ifpo and AUB.
