We are pleased to invite you to this webinar that aims to discuss the results of the first round of the recent HIECS, conducted between October 2019 and March 2020, right before the Covid-19 outbreak, that showed a decrease in the poverty rates to 29,7% of population.
The HIECS (Household Income, Expenditure and Consumption Survey) is the CAPMAS reference survey for identifying changes in consumption patterns and measuring the poverty rate, as defined by the national poverty line. The evolution shown by this study – the first decrease in poverty since 2000 – needs to be further discussed.
During the webinar:
Dr. Ahmed Kamaly (Deputy minister to the Minister of Planning, and Economic Development) will comment on the results of the recent HIECS data from the perspective of the ministry and talk about the government efforts to decrease poverty rates in Egypt.
Dr. Heba El-Laithy (FEPS, Cairo University) will present the findings of her study using the recent HIECS data and explains their social and statistical factors.
Dr. Heba Nassar (FEPS, Cairo University) will discuss the HIECS results and elaborate on the recent poverty study that she has conducted in collaboration with UNICEF.
