Le 12 décembre la BULAC accueillera pour une conférence publique Maurus Reinkowski, professeur d’études islamiques et moyen-orientales à l’université de Bâle, spécialiste des interactions du monde turc et ottoman à l’époque contemporaine avec l’Europe et le monde arabe.

Cette séance est organisée par le CETOBaC, à l’initiative de Marc Aymes. Elle sera consacrée à la mise en perspective historique des interactions entre mondes turc, arabe et balkanique en Méditerranée orientale qui connaissent aujourd’hui une recomposition profonde et rapide.
La rencontre est ouverte à tous, elle se tiendra de 18h à 19h30 au rez-de-jardin de la bibliothèque (salle RJ.24). Un temps d’échange avec la salle est prévu à l’issue de la conférence.

Argument :
The new constellations in the Middle East that we have been facing during the last few years are owed to two decisive events – the Arab Revolts starting in 2010 and the invasion of Iraq in 2003 by the United States and its allies. Both events have triggered about a dynamic that has transcended by far the original context and brought about a fundamental change to what has been the Middle East in the 20th century. One of the major challenges for Middle Eastern Studies in the coming years will be to tackle with the question how to find an appropriate framework of explanation to the major transformation that takes place in the region.
